The image for the cover of Zenn Scarlett materialized in my inbox recently. I’m seriously stoked about it. Simply… breathtaking, as in breath… taken. A number of blogs were in on the reveal & have been dishing up some tasty reactions. After all the expert work and star-painting by the Strange Chemistry team & the designers at “Argh! Oxford,” it seems only fair to post some of the swell stuff said about this spangly celestial cover-win (and, yes, I’ll admit I’m basking a bit. Blame me? Naaaah.)
“Very introspective, thoughtful and dreamy, this is a wonderful cover, and definitely one of Strange Chemistry’s best yet.” ––Shadowhawk, The Founding Fields
“This is a stunning cover. In fact, it’s my favourite so far. Hands down. The spacescape, the character, everything. The font is simple and elegant and it all screams “science fiction” in the best of ways.” — Leo Elijah Cristea, Jet Black Ink
“What I love the most about this cover has to be the vibrant colours. The cover also has this dreamy-like feel to it, if you know what I mean. The world that Schoon created sounds so amazing! I love the idea that Zenn is training to become an exoveterinarian, which is basically just a veterinarian for aliens. I don’t read nearly enough science fiction (besides dystopia, which I think is classified as science fiction) and would like to remedy that.” — Fantasy’s Ink
“I love the simplicity of the cover… It’s so unique and different to what’s currently on the market. I really love the emphasis on the sky and space. I cannot wait to read this book!” — Read Write and Read Some More
Yeah, that is an amazing cover. It’s hard to pick a favorite aspect, but I really like how the title and author name draw your attention in spite of the amazing scenery and brilliantly intricate character also attracting your eye.
I was browsing through some only “Robot Army Incomming” emails and saw your announcement for this getting purchased by Strange Chemistry. Congrats on that, by the way, it looks like they’re doing a great job so far, and May is coming up fast. I’m trying to finish editing my book by Demicon, which is like May 2, so that date is coming really fast for me. I saw that you are from Iowa, and wondered if you were going to Demicon. I’m from Des Moines, and didn’t know about it until a few weeks ago. If you go, I’d love to meet you there and chat about your book.
Hi Tim. Thanks for the comments re: Zenn’s cover art. And, yes, the image-masterdroids at Strange Chemistry did a fabulous job capturing the spirit of the book in single, evocative scene. I couldn’t be happier. Well, I could, but that would require booking some dancing wolverines and a decanting a barrel of fermented kipfruit pulp, so we’ll just say I’m good for now. Congrats to you on your book quest. I’m assuming it’s SF? As for Des Moines, haven’t really decided if I’m gonna make it to Demicon in May – since Zenn debuts in the UK on 5/2 and then in the US/Canada on 5/7, things are going to be a little hectic just then. But I’d love to get there if time permits. I’ll post a note here on the blog if I decide I’m going to make the trek. In any case, thanks again for your post & stop by again sometime!
